Seattle Asperger's Support provides social thinking groups for children and youth and adults with Asperger's Syndrome , PDD-NOS, High functioning Autism ,ADHD and neurotypical people who need social skills.

Unlike traditional social skills groups, social thinking teaches people  to  "think social" thus laying a solid foundation for social skills. We use curriculum and materials developed by Michele Garcia Winner and her staff at her San Jose, Ca. Clinic in addition to other cognitive behavioral techniques.

Our clients learn how to discern what is "expected " in a social setting vs what is "unexpected" and that when they behave in ways that are 'expected" people in their social environment are comfortable around them. They also learn how to "think with their eyes" create "people files" in their brains and many other skills. Conversational skills are also stressed and we see our clients make amazing progress in their ability to use their new social thinking skills to connect with the people in their world.

Parent support is a very critical piece of the work that we do. Each new client attends two family sessions in which we cover the major foundational concepts in social thinkng.  After every group session we have "parent talk time" where we go over the contents of the session and get input from parents as to how things are going at home and at school relative to the skills we are working on. We also provide handouts for home and school with key concepts and terminology explained so they can be used at home and at school with our clients. This year we have added monthly parent meetings to "cement" the use of social thinking at home.

Children's groups are on Saturdays. Cost is $60.00 per session. Groups run throughout the school year on Saturdays with breaks for school vacations. A summer program is also now available. For children who are not yet ready for a group but are able to learn social thinking we offer a family consultation model.

We have expanded our services to include groups for adults on Monday nights. No one is too old to benefit from learning about social thinking!

We love seeing the amazing progress our clients make! They make us smile.
